Tattoos –History and Purpose
Today it seems people are showing much interest in tattoos. Tattoos are becoming an identification of the popular culture. People are wearing these tattoos almost on all parts of the body in various designs. But what exactly this tattoo means and where did this art come from?
Tattoo is a kind of body art. A permanent body marking is made by inserting ink into the layers of the skin. By changing the pigmentation of the skin, chosen design is marked on the body part. It is said that tattoos has its origins from Neolithic ages and it is a Eurasian art. It is discovered from the mummies belonging to the age of second millennium BC bearing tattoos. In Japan, its history is dated back to the Paleolithic era. Various cultures have their tattoo tradition with rich history.
Usually these tattoos are made for certain purposes like cosmetic, medical, religious, spiritual, and sentimental purposes. They are also symbolizes social status, rank, bravery, and fertility. Some are marked to protect from evil. Tattoos have different meaning in different cultures. Some use these tattoos as a permanent makeup in the natural colors like elevating eyebrows, enhancing lips, and permanent moles. In medical, a tattoo is made to identify the place where an implant is fixed in the body during surgery. Though tattoos have many varied purposes but they have become a style symbol in the modern world.
